Starch Blaster - Make This Healthy Dish With Zero Effort
-
Shoot for the stars with Starch Blaster! Starch Blaster is a combination of different whole starches, veggies, and seasonings. All you do is add everything to your InstantPot, set it, and in no time you will have a comforting bowl of starch-y goodness that will keep you satisfied and FULL. Absolutely no chopping and no prepping necessary. This super simple method of making a satisfying meal will quickly become a favorite.
Step 1: Start with Dry Starches
Starches are an excellent source of complex carbohydrates, which is our body’s main source of fuel. These carbohydrates break down slowly for a steady source of energy throughout the day. Legumes, beans, and a variety of whole grains are what make Starch Blaster such a filling and satisfying meal.
You'll want 1/2 cup of 3-4 dry starches for a 3 QT pressure cooker, or 5-6 dry starches for a 6 QT. Dry starches include quinoa, millet, barley, wild rice, brown rice, red lentils, green lentils, split peas, black eyed peas, soy curls, rolled or steel cut oats, and whole grain or legume pasta.
Step 2: Add Veggies & Anything Else!
The best part of this dish is the different veggies and add-ins you can toss into the pot! We often use dried veggies in this because of how easy they are to keep on hand and store. Dillon used multiple different brands of dehydrated veggies mixes in the past for this dish. Some had odd ingredients, while others had no flavor. So we developed our own Dried Veggie Blend with a robust flavor that is a perfect, essential ingredient in Starch Blaster. Click here to purchase our Dried Veggie Blend!
We recommended ¾ cup WYW Dried Veggie Blend along with 1-3 optional add-ins. Add-ins can be fresh, frozen, canned or anything you want to get out of your fridge/freezer!
Our Dried Veggie Blend is not just for Starch Blaster! There are so many ways you can use this blend including soups, stews, dips, pasta, rice, and so much more.
Step 3: Add Seasonings/Herbs/Spices
What makes Starch Blaster so amazing are the endless combinations of starches, seasonings, and flavors! We love switching it up each time with different flavor profiles like Mexican, Cajun, Italian or Caribbean by using Well Your World spice blends. There is no need to make the same Starch Blaster when you can make a new combination everyday if you want to!
Start by adding 1 tablespoon of garlic powder or minced garlic along with an optional ¼ cup WYW Nooch. Then, add 2-3 tablespoons of your favorite spice or herb blend like Italian seasoning, Fiesta Blend, Voodoo, or Calypso.
Step 4: Add Water & Cook for 18 Minutes
Finally, add water to the Instant Pot and set it! Kitchen hack: use hot or boiling water to fill the Instant Pot. Using hot water will allow it to hit pressure much faster, so you can eat sooner!
For the 3 or 6 QT Instant Pot add water or veggie broth to the max fill line. Set the Instant pot to high pressure and cook for 18-20 minutes with a quick release. If you are using wild rice, we recommend 20 minutes to let it fully cook.
Step 5: Add Toppers!
There are so many tasty ways to top this dish and make a new bowl every time! We especially love topping ours with WYW Everything Bagel, WYW Stardust, or WYW Sriracha.
Other delicious toppings include sliced olives, pine nuts, tahini, hummus, pico, guacamole, and anything else you want to add more pizzazz to your Starch Blaster!
