-
Since you guys loved our first and second parts of our kitchen hacks, we had to give you a part three! Cooking on a whole food plant-based sos-free diet does not need to be difficult. You don’t need to be a professional chef to cook amazing homemade meals quickly! These hacks are great for getting you in and out of the kitchen as fast as possible.
Keep reading for some of our favorite kitchen hacks that we use every time we are cooking!
#1 - Cut Up Old Veggies in the Fridge and Make a Sheet Pan Meal
One of the best ways to repurpose aging veggies in your refrigerator before they go bad is by making them into a sheet pan meal! Simply cut the veggies up, add your favorite spices and flavors, throw it in the oven, and you have a delicious meal ready.
If you need a little inspiration for your sheet pan meal, we have a few sheet pan meal recipes that work wonderfully with this hack. You can find our Tofu Scramble Sheet Pan and Mediterranean Sheet Pan recipes in our FREE 5 Day Downloadable Meal Planner!
#2 - Refrigerate Cooked Potatoes Before Cooking for Crispier Potatoes
We know…this hack does sound a little bit strange but we promise that this hack truly is amazing! To get the crunchiest and crispiest potatoes, cook them first, refrigerate overnight, and then bake or air fry. Chef AJ is the one who told us about this hack and we absolutely love it!
A fun way we like to use this hack is by preparing mashed potatoes and then storing them in a rectangle container overnight in the fridge to make a mashed potato “brick.” The next day you can slice the mashed potatoes into strips and air fry them, these are great for dipping or french toast sticks!
#3 - Add Peas in Pasta Water
One of our favorite ways to get our veggies in is by adding them to our pasta dishes, especially peas in our mac and cheese! This hack is so simple and easy, which is why we love it and it is a favorite in our house.
Just add your vegetable of choice to the pot with your boiling pasta in the last few minutes, strain with the pasta, and you are done! With this hack you no longer need to steam the vegetables on their own or waste dishes. This hack works great for fresh or frozen veggies! As we say…peas please, in my mac and cheese!
#4 - Get a Mason Jar Funnel
An inexpensive, yet useful tool that we often use in our kitchen is a mason jar funnel. Whether you are storing a soup or stew, making vegetable broth, or pre-batching your dry ingredients, these funnels are so helpful in so many ways. You can find the funnel we use here on amazon.
Even if you don’t use mason jars for food storage, this funnel is still good to have around for various recipes. For example, this funnel is also great when juicing and for putting ice in your water bottles.
#5 - Sub beans for nuts in recipes
Nuts are often common ingredients found in vegan recipes, especially when it comes to creamy dishes or sauces. Although it is also common for people to not consume nuts, whether it is for an allergy, preference, or trying to cut down on fat.
Oftentimes people ask us if there is an option of subbing out the nuts for something else, so the dish will still have that creamy texture without the nuts. You can sub nuts with any white beans in most recipes. This is great to keep in mind if you or someone close to you cannot consume nuts!
BONUS - Buy Well Your World Cheese Sauce Mix
Our bonus hack is to buy WYW Cheese Sauce Mix! Our cheese sauce mix is one of our favorite products to use especially when we are in a pinch. Just toss the mix into the blender, add water, blend, and you have a delicious cheese sauce that can be used on just about any dish! Perfect for mac and cheese, pizza, nachos, burrito bowls, as a dip and so much more. Not only is the cheese sauce fast and simple to make, it also tastes delicious.
