Our Top 5 Kitchen Hacks - Part 2! | WFPB Cooking
-
Since everyone loved our first kitchen hacks video, we decided to give you 5 MORE of our favorite hacks that we use every time we are in the kitchen. Keep reading if you want to save time in the kitchen and make cooking a breeze!
These hacks are designed to make cooking on a vegan whole food plant based diet easier and less stressful. It is easy to feel intimidated when it comes to making homemade plant-based meals, but we got your back! We hope that you guys enjoy these hacks as much as we do and let us know what hacks you use in the kitchen!
#1 - Clean Your Kitchen Tools Right Away
One of Dillon’s BIGGEST pet peeves is cleaning a crusty, dirty blender. You have to agree that nothing is worse than a blender that has food stuck in it. It feels like an olympic sport trying to get all the particles off the sides and the blades! That is why we recommend cleaning your blender immediately after using it, even if that means just rinsing it out with a little soap.
This hack also is great for pretty much any kitchen tool that you may use. Although, the most important tools that we think should be cleaned immediately are blenders, whisks, and garlic mincers.
#2 - Skip the Sauté Step
Yes that is correct, this hack is to completely skip the sauté step. Whether you are in a hurry, tired, sick, or just don’t feel like standing at the stove, you can 100% omit that step and it will not ruin the recipe.
Most of the time sautéing does not create a very noticeable difference that it is worth it to do for every recipe. Of course, if you want to feel fancy or are cooking for family and friends you might want to sauté. But for everyday cooking skipping that step will save a lot of time and it is likely you won’t notice a difference.
#3 - Get Yourself a Garlic Rock
Two words…garlic rock. If you are using fresh garlic in any recipe, you need a garlic rock. It makes chopping garlic so easy and simple. All you have to do is find a rock with a flat side and smash the garlic with it. The garlic will split into cloves and the skin comes right off.
No longer do you have to spend time trying to peel every piece of skin off of the garlic. Head outside and find yourself a garlic rock (or two) and send us a photo so we can show it off on our live show!
#4 - Eat Meals Deconstructed
This may sound odd, but hear us out. Eating your meals deconstructed allows for better ratios of each ingredient, keeps better in the fridge, and it saves so much time! This works great with bowls especially burrito bowls, sushi bowls, springs roll bowls, and so much more!
A great example of this is with sushi. When you make sushi it can be time consuming, difficult, the ratios are strange, and it truly does not make that many servings. On the other hand, you can make a sushi bowl, prepare all your ingredients separately, and cut up pieces of seaweed and it tastes so good if not better. Eating sushi this way is so much easier, saves time in the kitchen, keeps great in the fridge and is so much more filling.
#5 - Pre-Batch Your Grains and Dry Items in a Mason Jar
If you have watched a lot of our videos you likely have already noticed that Dillon likes to pre-batch grains and dry items in a mason jar. Doing this allows for much less clean up on the day you are cooking and makes cooking so, so easy. Simply pour in the contents of the mason jar into your pot (or whichever cooking vessel you are using), add the fresh or frozen ingredients, and you are done! Pre-batching is perfect for one pot meals, soups, stews, and so many other recipes.
We also have a secret…this hack works beautifully as a gift. Write down the recipe, add it to some ribbon, wrap it around the jar, and voilà you have an easy homemade gift! Reebs has given these jars out to her friends many times and they loved it!
Bonus - Use WYW Products
Of course we had to do a bonus hack! This bonus hack is to use Well Your World products. All of our products are designed to help you spend less time in the kitchen and more time doing the things you love. You probably only thought about our Cheese Sauce Mix or our Banana Pancake Mix as the product that saves you time in the kitchen. But our sauces and dressings are also great for saving time and staying on track with your healthy SOS-free diet. Our dressings and sauces can be used on so many different dishes. Our Italian Dressing is great to put on salads, especially on the go! Our Indian Everything Sauce and Asian Everything Sauce are great to add to the deconstructed meals we mentioned earlier. Not to mention, you can add our Marinara Magnifica or Mushroom Basil Pasta Sauce to pasta or other recipes without any additional ingredients. We strive to make a whole food plant based diet easy and fast for anyone!
That is all we got for our second installment of our top 5 kitchen hacks. We use these hacks every time we are cooking something up in the kitchen for a video or just for dinner. We hope you like these hacks and begin to implement them in your cooking routine. What hacks do you have that we didn’t mention, let us know!
